Question: with the use of motivation theory discuss how Caribbean managers can enhance the motivation of their employees. Provide relevant examples to illustrate your answer. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the use of motivational theories and how they relate and enhance the motivation of employees by managers within the Caribbean. Motivation is defined as the processes that accounts for an individual’s intensity, direction, and persistence of effort toward attaining a goal. It can either be negative or positive. For instance, positive motivation includes goals or rewards that you will enjoy or feel proud of. Negative motivation is said to occur when you undertake a task out of fear or a desire to avoid a given outcome. On the†¦show more content†¦In the self-actualization level, managers should give employees meaningful work assignments which allow employees to reach their full potential. Another theorist David McClelland developed Learned Needs Theory, which suggests that everyone prioritizes needs differently. He also believes that individuals are not born with these needs, but that they are actually learned through life experiences. McClelland’s theory focuses on three needs: * Need for Achievement (nAch): this is the drive to excel, to achieve in relation to a set of standards, to strive to succeed. * Need for Power (nPow): this is the need to make others behave in a way in which they would not have behaved otherwise. * Need for Affiliation (nAff): this is the desire for friendly and close interpersonal relationships. This theory is evident in the Caribbean where some employees strive to achieve everything possible through their career. They are the employees who started out at the bottom and with persistence and determination work their way through to management level. Managers can assist these employees by training them in different areas and departments and allowing them to move ahead within the business which would cause it to grow and produce more outstanding individuals. In contrast, there are some employees who strive to succeed just to have the sense of power and control everything around them because of the mentality that they have been indoctrinated with.
